Eye-Bank Scholarships Offer Students Two Opportunities

Each year, The Eye-Bank awards two $3,000 academic scholarships: The Young Ambassador Scholarship and the STEM Scholarship.
Students who reside within The Eye-Bank’s service area—New York City, Long Island, and the lower Hudson Valley (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange Counties)—are encouraged to apply.
The deadline for both scholarships is May 15, 2025.
The Young Ambassador Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Christopher Nordquist who passed away at the age of two and gave the gift of sight. Through the years, his mother, Andrea Nordquist, has shared their family’s story and their decision to donate Christopher’s corneas in hopes of increasing awareness of the good that eye donation can do.
Qualifications:
Applicants who are high school seniors or students up to the age of 26 who are enrolled in a 2 or 4-year program of higher learning must conduct an educational or outreach initiative that raises awareness in their community (school, local clubs, libraries, etc.) about the need for eye donation. Projects utilizing social media to promote enrollment in the New York State Donate Life Registry are welcome. Applicants should request a designated URL to track registry enrollments by contacting info@ebsr.org. The URL will be active from the date provided until the May 15th scholarship deadline. More information about qualifying criteria as well as past winner’s projects can be found on our website.
The STEM Scholarship was instituted in memory of James Fabian, Esq., former president of The Eye-Bank. Together with the Fabian family, The Eye-Bank commemorates his enduring legacy with a STEM Scholarship to help qualified students pursue higher education in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM), fields that Mr. Fabian considered essential to the advancement and benefit of today’s society.
Qualifications:
Applicants of any age who are enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college as undergraduate or graduate students must research and submit a 3 to 4 page, (minimum 1000 words) paper that proposes a method using any area of STEM, that might help increase the number of eye, organ and tissue donations provided to individuals who are waiting for sight and life-saving transplants. More information about qualifying criteria as well as past winning STEM proposals can be found on our website.
The Eye-Bank is available to provide guidance and outreach materials to interested applicants. If you have questions about a Young Ambassador Scholarship outreach project or a STEM Scholarship research/method proposal, we encourage you to email us at info@ebsr.org.
